It wasn't until I started really digging into the style and the stories behind it that suddenly the movie came to life for me. Now I've seen it more times than I can count. I look forward to hearing your impression of it after you see it.

And you are so right about Ms. Dietrich--Marlene is ridiculously photogenic and her presence is undeniable. It's a thrill to watch her in this movie, especially when she's on stage. You feel like you're catching her cabaret act. Such a thrill, especially for those lucky enough to catch it on the big screen.Kimberly Truhlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07568754070267220809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4959252133628799060.post-69780609271452368642013-06-05T10:38:27.515-07:002013-06-05T10:38:27.515-07:00Thanks so much, Christian! It's remarkable how often there are others involved. And there are always such great stories behind-the-scenes of these movies. that really bring so much meaning to them. A FOREIGN AFFAIR is a great example of that. :)Kimberly Truhlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07568754070267220809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4959252133628799060.post-88446989627553582892013-06-03T17:27:19.908-07:002013-06-03T17:27:19.908-07:00Fantastic read, Kimberly and wonderful images! I haven't watched A Foreign Affair in a long time but now MUST soon.

AuroraCitizen Screenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11596338896095275116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4959252133628799060.post-39586001525759264272013-06-03T16:48:17.570-07:002013-06-03T16:48:17.570-07:00Great post Kimberly! This is one such film that you explicate so thoroughly. let's hear it for Marlene, Irene, and Billy Wilder.Christian Esquevinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04442827724576856379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4959252133628799060.post-8932936975652505672013-06-03T12:39:32.018-07:002013-06-03T12:39:32.018-07:00Thanks Kay! It's such an enormous style story--and I still haven't even gotten into the in's and out's of Jean Arthur, for instance--that I'm amazed I was able to do a recap in 5 minutes at the TCM film festival. lol So happy to hear you enjoyed all the other interesting tidbits, especially when you're not a fan of the movie (I originally was not either). It's such a great style story.

Loved our time together at TCMFF, too! xo Kimberly Truhlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07568754070267220809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4959252133628799060.post-70342328886427831662013-06-03T12:36:24.530-07:002013-06-03T12:36:24.530-07:00Thanks so much, Patricia! Then I studied it super closely and - wham! - now I can't get enough. It's such a great snapshot of that time in history, too, as it was filmed on location in post-war Berlin. Just fascinating all the way around. Love that you're going to revisit it now--what a lovely compliment!Kimberly Truhlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07568754070267220809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4959252133628799060.post-50123583056803634112013-06-03T12:34:13.841-07:002013-06-03T12:34:13.841-07:00Fantastic read and so many yummy details. Thanks for sharing this and for being the best Fest bestie ever! I am NOT a fan of this film but I love your review! I'm going to have to watch the film again just to view it through the lens of this post. Am a great fan of Dietrich and Wilder, together and separately, and literally devoured this piece. Thanks for a great read - and fascinating backstory...The Lady Evehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11963115499930520653noreply@blogger.com
