GlamAmor-ous Holiday Moments--Judy Garland in MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS

Though Vincent Minnelli's Meet Me in St. Louis was set at the turn of the century, there was much in the film that translated to its 1944 audience. As World War II continued to rage on, the movie brought tremendous comfort by showing an idealized America and a family sticking together through a lengthy period of love and loss.  Esther (Judy Garland) singing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" to her troubled younger sister was an especially poignant moment in the movie and it still is today.  Costumes supervised by Irene.

GlamAmor-ous Holiday Moments--"Snow" from WHITE CHRISTMAS

Another favorite moment from White Christmas...this time the song "Snow Snow Snow" that they perform on the train on their way from Florida up to Vermont.  In Los Angeles, it's always possible to be singing "Rain Rain Rain" instead for the winter holidays.  Again, costumes in the movie by my beloved Edith Head.

GlamAmor-ous Holiday Moments--Bing Sings "White Christmas" in 1942's HOLIDAY INN

Though many don't know it, the song "White Christmas" was first sung by Bing Crosby in 1942's Holiday Inn and then later in 1954's White Christmas.  Overall Holiday Inn isn't that great, but the candlelit scene with he and Marjorie Reynolds singing by the fire is certainly worth watching.

In Los Angeles, We're All Singing in the Rain

Inspired by the near constant rain in Los Angeles over the past several days, how could I not post something from Stanley Donan's 1952 classic Singing in the Rain?  This movie--which shows early Hollywood and its transition from silent to talking pictures--never ceases to put a smile on my face.  Hope you enjoy it, too.

GlamAmor-ous Holiday Moments--from 1934's THE THIN MAN

1934's The Thin Man--one of my favorite movies and an even better book by Dashiell Hammett--takes place around Christmas, so I tend to watch it at this time every year.  Love the elegance of Nick and Nora Charles (William Powell and Myrna Loy) as well as their strong and truly affectionate partnership.  It's also amusing that Nick drinks almost constantly, so every moment tends to seem like a celebration.  Costumes by Dolly Tree.

Michelle Obama in Vintage Norell for the Holidays

For TNT's "Christmas in Washington 2010," First Lady Michelle Obama chose a 1950s Norman Norell black lace dress to celebrate the holidays. Mrs. O wears a ton of vintage-inspired pieces, so I'm thrilled to see her seamlessly incorporate true vintage into her wardrobe now as well.  You can see that she's styled this outfit in both a classic and modern way with black kitten heel pumps and dangling diamond statement earrings.  A girl after my own heart, she looks absolutely gorgeous.  Happy holidays, America!

GlamAmor-ous Holiday Moments--from It's a Wonderful Life

I love the moments in the film when George and Mary (Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed) start falling in love...
first at the high school dance and then afterward when they're walking home soaked from falling into the pool.

Last Weekend's Amazing A Current Affair Show

This past weekend, I brought the West Coast Prep of GlamAmor downtown to the Cooper Building for the prestigious A Current Affair vintage show.  Over 25 of the finest vintage dealers from Los Angeles and beyond gathered to present their carefully curated collections to an adoring audience that included Kristen Stewart and Marisa Tomei.  It was fascinating to see how each vendor's artistic vision was uniquely expressed through vintage clothing and accessories.  Things kicked off Friday night with a cocktail party and continued through to the beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon.

Friday night was a cocktail party hosted by burlesque dancer Liz Goldwyn, who curated a collection of vintage picks from the Current Affair vendors and signed advance copies of her book Pretty Things.  She was appropriately positioned right in front of GlamAmor!

A huge thanks to Richard and Joey for putting together A Current Affair.  It's such a great show and group of talented dealers.
I loved everyone and can't wait to do it again!
