2011 TCM Classic Film Festival--Poolside at the Roosevelt and Girl Happy

Without a doubt, one of my favorite places to be during the 2011 TCM Classic Film Festival was poolside at the Roosevelt Hotel.  I'm frequently drawn to water, as is evident by the fact that I'm a surfer who lives in Santa Monica near the ocean.  And so with unbelievably gorgeous weather that warmed into the 80s, I found the glamorous pool was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun in between screenings.  It was also a sultry location at night where TCM chose to screen the Thursday night movie, Elvis Presley in 1965's Girl Happy.

Even before the Girl Happy pool party, I had made a beeline straight for the pool on Wednesday when I came to film a Fan Story for TCM.  Again, very little is stronger to me than water on a hot day.  The bonus was that Ben Mankiewicz and his production team were filming that day at The Bridge, a lounge area at the Roosevelt that hovers just above the pool in a modern Neutra-like space.  They were nice enough to let me tag along and I had fun being behind the scenes.  Again, I cease to be surprised at the amount of talent and dedication of the people who work with TCM and it was a pleasure to spend time with all of them.

Girl Happy:  1960s red and ivory wiggle dress, 1960s black patent leather frame bag (in previous blog),
Nine West black patent leather peeptoe pumps, jet and gold bead dangle earrings, single skinny gold bangle bracelet

There was even a dress similar to mine in the movie!  And wiggle dresses like this and in the movie are on trend today.

And now...Elvis Presley in Girl Happy!
