Cinema Connection--1970s Blouses are Fit to be Tied

One of the biggest trends for Fall 2011 is the resurgence of the 1970s.  The 70s silk blouse tied at the neck is definitely a standout piece for the upcoming season and you can see that celebrities are already loving the look.  It's extremely versatile in that it can be dressed down or up...pair it with everything from everyday denim to a classic career skirt.  This is how Faye Dunaway did it in 1976's Network, mixing a mocha neck-tie blouse with a chocolate skirt for a big meeting with her boss at UBS.  Feminine and professional all at once...those television executives didn't stand a chance.

One thing I've noted, Kimberly, is that some of the bows on these newer blouses are VERY skimpy...and that makes them look cheap! I've encouraged my clients here in upstate NY to look for generous amounts of very rich fabric for a luxe look, like the one Faye is wearing so beautifully. Nice trend spotting!

Yes, this is a piece that I recommend spending a little bit more on as well, Kay. Though you can always find trendy pieces at the lower-priced stores, this is actually a great foundation piece that anyone will be able to wear for years to come. Look for quality pieces, which can include vintage since those clothes were the originals of the look and built to last.
