Cinema Connection--Vintage Inspired Statement Coats from Burberry for Fall 2011

Burberry has always aligned its British brand with great coats, particularly their classic trench that is an aspirational yet timeless piece for any woman's wardrobe.  Imagine my delight when I spied Christopher Bailey's collection of coats for Burberry Prorsum Fall 2011...the colors, classic cuts, and rich fabrics harken back to my favorite time in the 1960s.  You can see some of the vintage coats I love online at the GlamAmor Store and even more in my California Market Center showroom.

In film, you'll find these designs made most famous by men like Jean Louis and Hubert de Givenchy.  Just take a look at the ones from Pillow Talk and Breakfast at Tiffany's, respectively, to get a feel for the inspiration.  There's virtually nothing better than Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy...some of my favorite coats in her arsenal are used catching Cary Grant in 1963's Charade.  Wearable works of art.

Brightly colored late '50s/early '60s coats are wonderful and so cheerful, especially when it's gray and gloomy. Those with simple lines are my favorite -- clean and sharp, with a few nice details. My ultimate dream coat is the orange one by Givenchy that Audrey Hepburn wears in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Those you featured from "Charade" are lovely, too.

I can't bring myself to buy modern-made coats anymore. Just about any decent vintage coat is going to be better constructed, of higher quality and more interesting than something new that costs the same amount.

-Melissa, who bought the pink '60s coat from your Etsy shop just this morning! :)

So lovely to meet you, Melissa! What a pleasure and thanks for your purchase of the coat. :) You will LOVE that coat. I mean it...you tell me if people don't respond to you instantly when you wear it. The color, the texture, the buttons. :) And it's just what you (and I) like with those clean sharp lines. I agree with you...no modern coat even comes close when it comes to quality and design. It is sure to brighten your Fall and Winter (and even some Spring!) months. xoxo K
