Happy 7th Birthday, GlamAmor!

February has been so busy, but it's important for me to pause before the month is through to do a little celebrating. GlamAmor just turned 7! Though much of the brand started in late 2009, the website went live on February 8, 2010, so that is the milestone I mark each year.

As many of you know, my time is now split between managing marketing for three of Sony's movie channels and my own film history work for GlamAmor. But make no mistake - I always try to be an ambassador for classic cinema, and I am passionate about proving its ongoing relevance, particularly through the HISTORY OF FASHION IN FILM. This past year has included the following opportunities for me to discuss its importance:

--Expert for a New York Post article on Oscar-nominated (and winning) costume design called "How Movies Changed the Way We Dress"
--Expert for a BBC Worldwide documentary on the glamorous legacy of seven actresses - from Clara Bow in the 1920s to Audrey Hepburn in the 1960s
--Expert for a documentary on the ARTE European Cultural Channel on costume designer Jean Louis and Marilyn Monroe
--Guest speaker for an ongoing series at the Annenberg Beach House on the THE STYLE ESSENTIALS: HISTORY OF FASHION IN FILM 1920s-1980s (last talk in series coming in May)
--Host and producer of a video interview with Monika Henreid delving into the iconic style of NOW, VOYAGER and CASABLANCA as well as backstories of those films

Right around the corner on April 4 is yet another talk I'm giving. This one is supplemental to the TCM Classic Film Festival (TCMFF) and is called FASHION IN FILM OF TCMFF: SOPHISTICATED COMEDIES 1930s-1950s. It's already waitlist only, but I still encourage people to sign up. I'm so pleased how excited people are about the event.

I thoroughly enjoy sharing what I love about classic film and hearing how people have been inspired to watch the movies after coming to my talks, taking my college class or online webinars, or watching my videos. I definitely want to be in front of the camera more.

I deeply appreciate everyone who continues to support my work and are as passionate about classic cinema and its influence as I am.  As always, it's just me trying to do it all--from the creative to the technological--and I do my best to remain connected to you.  This is why the GlamAmor network reaches so wide with this website (2.5 million+ visitors) and social media (10 channels including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Google+). I'm also working to bring back the e-newsletter on a more regular basis again.

I love seeing so many of you join in the conversation. Thanks to all of you and I can't wait to see what 2017 will bring!

Happy 5th Birthday, GlamAmor!

This week I celebrate the birthday of GlamAmor and, incredibly, it's just turned five!  Though the company started late in 2009, the website went live February 8, 2010, and that is the milestone I mark each year.  I'm proud to say that everything I do remains centered on classic cinema and the HISTORY OF FASHION IN FILM, and GlamAmor continues to grow and grow. Happy 4th Birthday, GlamAmor!

February has been such a busy month, but it's time to do a little celebrating.  GlamAmor has just turned four!

Though four years is a relatively long time online--for perspective, Twitter was formed only eight years ago--it hardly seems long enough to capture all that has happened with GlamAmor.  This is especially true of the past year.  GlamAmor just passed its one millionth unique visitor on the site and has social media that extends from its own YouTube Channel to pages on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Google+, and Instagram.

Offline, I've continued to be a guest speaker for presentations on THE STYLE ESSENTIALS: HISTORY OF FASHION IN FILM 1920s-1970s and share pieces from the carefully curated GlamAmor vintage study collection to show the impact of costume design on fashion.  These presentations expanded into a full blown college course on the subject at Woodbury University (now in the midst of its second semester!) as well as a successful webinar series that's been embraced by film and fashion fans alike.

Over the past year, I was also honored to be a part of some amazing events, including becoming a published expert for Christie's Inc. (for their auction of Elizabeth Taylor's first wedding gown) and a host for Turner Classic Movies at their 2013 TCM Classic Film Festival.  There's so much more ahead, including now working on the book for THE STYLE ESSENTIALS and being both a presenter and jury member at the International Fashion Film Awards in La Jolla this summer.

Since I just celebrated Ava Gardner's great style in The Killers (1946), I thought it would be fun to have her and then husband Frank Sinatra help blow out the candles of GlamAmor's birthday cake.  A huge THANK YOU to all who continue to support me and GlamAmor.  It thrills me that so many love the style of classic cinema and understand the importance of preserving its history.

I'm looking forward to the next year.  As Frank sings so well, the best is yet to come!

Happy (Belated) 3rd Birthday, GlamAmor!

Because of all the great things happening with GlamAmor, this is the first opportunity I've had to toast its anniversary!  On February 8th, I entered my fourth year of celebrating the vast HISTORY OF FASHION IN FILM.  My work continues to expand in every area...from educating about the ongoing influence of costume design on fashion to preserving and protecting the best of vintage clothing.  It's amazing to watch the evolution as more and more people come to appreciate the relevance of costume design and classic cinema today.

Thanks to everyone for their ongoing support...there's much more to come!  Cheers!
