The Cinema File--I Love Lucy...in Irene

Over the weekend, Turner Classic Movies celebrated Lucille Ball's 100th birthday with an entire day of her movies.  I awoke in the middle of the night to 1943's Du Barry was a Lady, blown away by how beautiful Lucy looked in this two-piece red gown by Irene.  She's simply stunning.  She's also proof that redheads can indeed wear red and wear it very well.

As costume designer for MGM in between Adrian and Helen Rose, Irene seems to bring a bit of both designers to Du Barry--dramatic glamour and loads of color, and this gown is a great example.  Red is a hot hot color for Fall this year and you couldn't ask for better inspiration than this. Happy birthday, Lucy!

Hey, I LOVE Lucy and this image is stunning! I did a three-part series on Lucy's nearly unknown glamourous past on my blog, and Irene's designs were a BIG part of that. Thanks for sharing this wonderful screencap, Kimberly, it's breathtaking!
