Out & About--A Model Television Debut on NBC's ACCESS HOLLYWOOD LIVE

Early in the morning yesterday, I traveled to Burbank to model for a segment on Access Hollywood Live and make my official television debut.  It was an incredible experience that was thanks to the invitation of stylist colleague Sydne Summer, who often works with the Style Network.  Her charge for Access Hollywood was to choose one Little Black Dress and style it four different ways based on four different celebrity styles.  Sofia Vergara inspired a glam look.  Rihanna inspired an edgy look.  Zooey Deschanel inspired a more retro look.  And Reese Witherspoon inspired a classic look, which of course was the one I was called in to do.

We were asked to do our own hair and makeup before arriving at the studio to save time, so I dressed in my interpretation of what Reese might wear (vintage, of course) in order to evoke the right makeup for the camera.  As most people know, I rarely wear black so I really enjoyed the opportunity to bring this 1960s pique with white trim around the collar out from my closet.  I loved wearing it and everyone--including host Billy Bush--were big fans as well.

The segment was a lot of fun to do, both because of the enthusiasm of my fellow models as well as the welcome we received from the Access Hollywood cast and crew.  I never cease to be amazed at the talent behind the scenes on these shows, and everyone I met--from hair and makeup to camera and lighting--were so great.  And hosts Billy Bush and Kit Hoover just seem to have a never-ending supply of energy and good humor.  A lot of fun.  I really appreciated the time people took to talk to me after the show wrapped and share their interesting experiences.  They also let me hang out on the floor as they filmed short segments for future shows and kick back in the audience seats that originally belonged to Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. Not only was I able to make my national television debut, but I also tapped into my favorite Hollywood history and made a few new friends in the process.  Couldn't ask for anything more.

A gorgeous sunrise greeted me on my way from Santa Monica to NBC Studios in Burbank

NBC has a long history as a network, including radio, as you can see by the evolution of its logos

Backstage in my own LBD:  1960s black pique fit and flare dress, 1960s tomato red leather frame bag,
Guess red patent leather peeptoe pumps, vintage pearl drop earrings, pearl choker (repurposed as a bracelet)

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno films right next door to Access Hollywood

Today's Access Hollywood set used to be Johnny Carson's for the original Tonight Show

Sydne chose the same simple LBD shift to style four different ways on each of us...
below she steams one to get it ready for my upcoming classic look

Lights...camera...action...here's our segment on Access Hollywood Live!

NOTE:  Waiting for actual clip from show, so just quickly filmed my TV to be able post in the meantime

After our show, the crew stayed to record bits of Billy and Kit against the green screen,
including an all cast Christmas sing-a-long

Billy and Kit shot funny bits for their Twelve Days of Christmas...
witness Eleven Pippas Piping (above) and Seven Swans a Swimming

Thanks to everyone associated with the show for such a great experience!

Thanks everyone! For those who want to see the video, it's here! It's actually embedded in this post. Sorry it's hard to see. You'll see me the video player has me looking over my shoulder with a list of what I'm wearing on the left side of the player. It's somewhat closer to the bottom of the post. Forgive the quality...just filmed my TV with my camera for now while we're waiting for the show to post something to YouTube. :)

Also thanks for the kind compliments. I really appreciate it. Means a lot. And Kevin, I'm ready whenever CBS is! :)

Well, they were lucky to get such chic, class, and style when they snagged you! Your backstage peeks are fascinating and they really show your dedication to your readers....thanks for thinking of us. You did a great job and should be proud of your subtle chic style. And Billy was right...you SHOULD have used your lovely vintage dress. Perfection!!!

What lovely comments...thank you, Kay! I'm glad you get as much of a kick out of the backstage images as I do. I mean, I walked into the huge Studio One at NBC like I was walking into a church. lol Almost like in ALL ABOUT EVE when Eve first went backstage with Celeste Holm and just breathes in the air. All these places in LA are so sacred to me...such incredible history.

And glad you enjoyed my vintage outfit as well! I think it would be great if Access Hollywood did a style segment to illustrate just how modern vintage can be, especially when it's so huge in LA/NY and worn by the most fashionable celebrities. It's no wonder...vintage offers quality, affordability, accessibility, and pieces that are unique and beyond stylish.
