GlamAmor at FIDM! Teaching THE STYLE ESSENTIALS: HISTORY OF FASHION IN FILM

In a few weeks, I will be teaching a three-day seminar at FIDM called The Style Essentials: the History of Fashion in Film.  The Style Essentials represent the most iconic costume design in the movies that continues to influence fashion today.  The clothing, accessories, and even hair styles have transcended from being mere costumes to now being a part of our popular culture.  I'm so excited to share these films with students and faculty at FIDM since they should be the foundation of any fashion designer's education not to mention an ongoing source of inspiration.  There will be plenty of examples that show how the most successful designers know their film history and frequently reference it in their work.

This seminar will focus on Women's Style (Men's Style to be covered at another time), and each day will cover two decades of the best designers and design:
Tuesday, August 7 - 1920s and 1930s
Wednesday, August 8 - 1940s and 1950s
Thursday, August 9 - 1960s and 1970s

In addition to the countless images I will be sharing from The Style Essentials, attendees will also see a capsule collection of vintage clothing from each era to exhibit the direct connection of classic cinema on ready-to-wear apparel.  Don't miss it!

Thank you all! Means a lot coming from you--Christian, Melissa, and Kay. Very sweet. As you know, I'm very passionate about this subject, so it brings me a lot of joy to share it with FIDM's exceptional students and staff. Been working hard and really love how the presentation is coming along!

Congrats, Kimberly, on having so many projects come to fruition. FIDM SF is my alma mater (I only wish all my teachers had been as glamorous as you!) I haven't visited here for a while and just saw your reply to my last comment. Thanks for that and here's the link to my post on Model Shop, the perfect movie for summer in LA.
